Training

What we believe

Developing horses and riders takes time. Good horsemanship is rooted in kindness, patience, trust, and understanding. Horses and riders that have mastered the basics are set-up to explore higher levels with greater opportunity for a positive experience. Being comfortable in the process grants the ability to think things through, promotes curiosity, and allows for a more positive attitude towards problem solving. At Smoketown Hollow Equine Services, we believe in setting up horses and riders for success through a positive learning environment and time dedicated to building strong foundational skills.

What we offer

We have a limited number of training spaces available at Smoketown Hollow. Horses in training receive extremely individualized training and care. Generally, horses will receive 5 training sessions per week. Depending on the individual goals and state of the horse, various forms of cross training may be incorporated (ponying, groundwork, liberty, etc.). Much of our training is done on the trail and we will periodically trailer horses off the property to gain experience in new settings.

Training includes full care board which includes hay and a ration balancer. Any additional feeds or supplements can be fed at the owner’s expense.
